Designing experiences to enable, inform and empower+ some creative fun
About
I am currently simplifying physics simulation software experience for scientists and engineers.
My past experience with music, web design, illustration, graphic design and 3D printing, lets me
solve problems in weirdly useful ways.
In another life, I used to lead a heavy metal
band.
In my spare time, I enjoy chess, bouldering, hiking, old Toyotas, sacred geometry, manufacturing
processes, DnB and
repairing/building stuff.
With a background in product design and electrical engineering, I design for utility,
accessibility
and simplicity in real constraints - delivering high-quality scalable design solutions that
intersect business
goals, customer needs and technical capabilities.
Irregularly, I ramble
about
art, life, technology, progress, meaning of value and being human amidst it all.
Thank you for stopping by.
Ansys
Overview
Ansys
is a global leader in simulation with a
wide portfolio of highly specialized and pervasive software.
Started off as an intern, I now work with designers, physics experts SMEs, product managers, testers
and software developers on
the latest Ansys product(s).
Worked on moonshot ideas for cloud and AI integration while aiding in improving the company's
design
systems and operations; and in UX team hiring, and expansion.
Built and showcased the team’s work to a wider audience within the company.
Discovery Application
Discovery is the first simulation-driven design tool combining
high-fidelity on-GPU simulation and interactive geometry modeling. Our goal is ease-of-use so that
customers can focus on complex problems.
Worked in the Design Business Unit of the company to improve the usability of the Discovery
application ecosystem.
Joined the product pre launch through multiple release cycles as it doubled the users and
experienced a 10x license growth - the product also solves simulations 200x faster than usual.
Designed at multiple levels of the interface - from simple visual assets, to new interactions,
information architecture and components.
Aided research team in preparing studies for and in conducting tests for accessibility studies for
color vision deficiency.
Cross-collaboration with business units for new features like interactive charts, sub-divisional
modeling, geometry checking and radar-antenna physics.
Introduced visual solutions to aid development and testing - convey complex interactions through
diagrams.
Designed end to end user-workflows for multi-release features, communicated with detailed
dev-specs and convincing high fidelity figma prototypes - part of the Agile development process -
continuously using one's own product.
Design System
Implemented the UX strategy to create a design language for the company's products through
cross-product collaboration.
Icon design language to standardize visual assets across Ansys portfolio while also improving the
workflow and system for designers creating these icons.
Converged the font and color use in the product.
Consulted other products within the company portfolio to implement modern design styles and
patterns.
Created a UI component library for designers for faster prototyping.
Wrote scripts to streamline part of the UI-side codebase for designers.
Mine Safety Appliances
MSA (Mine Safety Appliances)
develops,
manufactures and supplies safety products that protect people and facility infrastructures.
Worked with the lead industrial designer - driving new designs for multiple products
on which people's lives depend.
Design and Strategy
Worked in the New Product Development group, I designed for future products in the fall protection
and gas detection category.
Analyzed competitors, observing users, interviewing SMEs, human-factors evaluation & building
to
test physical and digital prototypes.
Conducted periodical brainstorming sessions with engineering, marketing and sales teams; site
visit to potential material suppliers.
At
RIT, I worked with 3D printers, CAD and workshop tools along with courses on visual
communication, interactions, form and function, plastics engineering and sustainability.
Immersed in accessibility, safety equipment, generative design, information architecture,
physical and digital interactions.
Thesis - Respiratory Protection Design
My thesis touched on worker
safety through the lens of respiratory protection.
Coincidentally, as I wrapped it up, a worldwide
pandemic broke out where respiratory protection became the most important thing. We extended
this idea to the healthcare sector.
The process involved several prototype iterations experimenting with materials and processes.
Studio930
Studio930 is a multidisciplinary studio focused on
producing access and
health technology products. This group is motivated equally by real-world learning and helping
